US medical insurance companies which have been accused of either systematically overbilling the US government or associated with fraud are the winners of the particular 2022 Shkreli awards dedicated to shaming perpetrators of profiteering plus dysfunction in healthcare. 1
Companies Blue Cross Glowing blue Shield associated with Michigan, Cigna, CVS Health, Elevance Wellness, Highmark, Kaiser Permanente, and United Health Group all provide Medicare Advantage Plans to Americans over 65, and have been accused of fraud or systematic overbilling. They all possess ongoing lawsuits.
Noble Health, a private equity group, was also among the 2022 winners. It bought two rural hospitals in Missouri, leading to shortages of drugs and supplies, and stopped paying employees’ health insurance despite deducting money for that purpose from their pay. …
